Here is what Bill Nash himself had to say about the "Extra Light Relic" vs "No Relic":
"We will be discontinuing extra light instruments, starting December 1st. Orders already in-house will be completed; if you have confirmed orders for extra light instruments they will be fulfilled.
We will be adding the option for “un-aged” instruments. These will have no aging, but will differ slightly in their production and final look as compared to the “extra light” option.
Like the discontinued extra light guitars, there will be minimal/no aging on any of the hardware or body. The back of the necks will continue to have the finish worn off and treatment to get the smooth feel. The bodies will no longer have the extra clear coats and the buffed/polished finish. They will be semi-dulled and and will have no up-charge.

Unlike the standard aged guitars, the XL guitars get several extra clear coats that require wet sanding and additional curing. This is prior to the final cut, buff and polish. Nitrocellulose finish, even after curing is much more delicate than the catalyzed, UV cured finishes used on most guitars. Our XL guitars are more susceptible to minor chips, cracks and dents. Extreme temperatures, rough handling by shipping companies have caused issues. We ultimately want to produce instruments that meet or exceed the expectations of our dealers and in turn their customers, and do not feel that we can stand behind the “extra light” finishes with the same conviction as the rest of our builds.
